Revolver Fridays: our last back room session for 2010!!
So, it’s just about xmas time, and let’s face it… it’s well and truly time to PARTY.
This festive spirit is likely to be even more concentrated when I tell you that this is our LAST FRIDAY OF THE YEAR AT REVOLVER!!!!
So, Revolver regulars Lewie Day, Katie Drover and Mike Callander have invited the hAUL Music cats Christian Vance and Craig McWhinney along for some kind of hybrid xmas/new year celebration, because Revolver ain’t open on Dec 24 or 31…
Pretty sure you know what to do!
(in case you do not… email firstname.lastname@example.org to get in cheap, and then get your asses down to Revolver this Friday!)
as always, you can get in cheaper by emailing full names to email@example.com, or for free by booking a table at Colonel Tan’s.
Revolver Fridays: omg another freakin' Friday approaches!
So, it’s our fifth week down at Revolver Upstairs. Hang on, how’s that possible? That’s like saying we tore the roof off the open air stage.
Well, we tore something in the last month. A few tendons, a few “hospitality muscles”, and few new… um. Anyway… It’s been great. That’s what we’re saying.
If you’ve not yet joined us, no doubt you’ve heard a whisper here or there about the incredible vibe. If not *insert whisper about incredible vibe*.
This week we welcome back Infusion’s crazy man Jamie Stevens. Last time he played the dinner set (and still managed to jump up and down behind the decks)… but this time he’s playing later. So too is our resident Tornado, Lewie Day, who is less animated but equally important. Then there’s Tom Lally, a fella who has genuinely inspired me for his true passion and enthusiasm for electronic music and its personalities in a way that makes me feel like a youngster again. Then there’s me. Twelve years after my first visit to Revolver and I find myself back there for at least ten hours a week. And, LOVING it.
Mike Callander is one of Australia’s most dynamic DJs, an innovative producer and remixer, and founder (alongside Christian Vance and Craig McWhinney) of the exciting new Australian record label, Haul Music.
Mike’s productions and remixes for his Haul Music imprint have enjoyed incredible feedback and support from a truly diverse range of DJs including Konrad Black, Agoria, Alex Smoke, Len Faki, Brothers Vibe, Deetron, Tim Paris, Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Tenaglia, Alexkid, Nick Warren, Deepchild, Gel Abril and Tomcraft.
As a DJ it was at his own techno club, Fokus, in Melbourne in 2001, that Mike achieved instant infamy for his genre-bending musical selections and an approach to DJing that was both versatile and unique. A decade later, Mike has performed and toured alongside just about every techno DJ to visit Australia, while in Melbourne holding long term residencies at a range of sought-after clubbing institutions such as Sunny, Nano, Ffour, and the infamous Honkytonks.
His mix CD for Honkytonks, entitled “The Last Dance” made its way into record stores across the world in 2006. Since then Mike has toured all across Australia and New Zealand, and as far afield as Berlin, Cologne, Prague, Warsaw, Los Angeles, Madrid and Malaysia, playing alongside artists as diverse as Mathew Jonson (in Cologne and Melbourne), Prins Thomas, Michael Mayer, Radioslave, Luciano, Booka Shade, Trentemoeller, Locodice, Matthew Dear, Stacey Pullen, Agoria (both in Melbourne and Berlin), M.A.N.D.Y (both in Melbourne and Berlin), and Mr C (in Melbourne and Berlin).
Mike’s DJing has also earned accolades from countless touring international artists, with many labeling him one of Australia’s finest - most notably Get Physical’s DJ T., who invited Mike to play in Berlin at his anniversary event to celebrate 20 years of DJing.
Back in Melbourne, Mike plays at such infamous clubs as Revolver, where he also hosts the “Haul Music Haus Party”, and at events such as Sneakerpeeps and The Likes Of You, as well as Festivals such as Rainbow Serpent, Stereosonic, Creamfields, Future Music and Summadayze.
Outside the clubs, Mike has made numerous appearances on radio such as Australia’s national youth radio station Triple J Mix Up (both as a guest and monthly resident DJ), and on Melbourne’s Kiss FM.
